A repo, read backwards.
gitprompt reads a public GitHub repository or website and writes the prompt someone might plausibly have typed into an AI coding assistant to build it: a short version, and a structured spec.
Swap the domain
Take any GitHub URL and replace github.com with gitprompt.dev.
github.com/vercel/next.js
gitprompt.dev/vercel/next.js
Deep links like /tree/main/src, issues and pull requests work too; the address bar is cleaned up to /owner/repo.
Open in gitprompt
Drag this link to your bookmarks bar, then click it on any GitHub repo page.
Open in gitpromptClicking it here does nothing; it only works from the bookmarks bar.
FAQ
- What is gitprompt?
- It reads a repository's description, language, root files and README, or a web page's title, description and visible text, detects the stack from manifests or page markers, and has a model write the prompt.
- What is it not?
- Not the author's real prompt, and not a summary or docs. The home page has the full list.
- Does it work on private repos?
- No. Only public repositories can be read.
- Does it work on websites?
- Yes, on public pages. It reads one page, follows robots.txt, and never fetches private or internal addresses. Pages that need JavaScript to render can come out thin, and sites behind a login can't be read.
- Do I need an account?
- No. There is nothing to sign up for or install, and the site doesn't track you.
